This week we <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.zoomshare.com\/viewtopic.php?pid=185124\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">updated Profiles<\/a> to allow for sharing of the information externally, as a page within one&#8217;s zoomshare site.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing too fancy I agree, online services going way back have allow users in one form or another to create and share identities and avatars. There&#8217;s even a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Avatar_%28icon%29\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">little bit of history<\/a> surrounding the concept and terms.<\/p>\n<p>The twist in today&#8217;s computing world is that of social networks and sharing. In the social networking scene, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MySpace<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a> for example, your avatar is your one and only web page within that community. In other communities your network is how you share your content and interest, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zoomshare.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoomshare, <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flickr<\/a> for example.<\/p>\n<p>But how does one manage, connect or disconnect different profiles and networks between different communities? This is where <a href=\"http:\/\/pdw.zoomshare.com\/index.shtml\/e9970a24c856508d674cbaae290b0c62_4665d946.writeback\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Widgets<\/a> come into play. In Facebook for example on can use a Facebook app to share Flickr photos within Facebook.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"http:\/\/pdw.zoomshare.com\/index.shtml\/36f33f13eab40efa4df0461038f2bc09_466d83c1.writeback\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">past blog posts<\/a> I&#8217;ve mention how this can work to one&#8217;s advantage, a user can choose to use the community\/web service\/toolset(s) of their preference, without any roadblocks to sharing or managing their identifies and networks.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"files\/web_2.0.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/p>\n<p>But all online communities are not created equal and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Api\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">API<\/a>s that web developers use to connect and interact with different systems don&#8217;t always play nice. Zoomshare Widgets, for example, don&#8217;t work on MySpace.<\/p>\n<p>Its an interesting coincidence that this week&#8217;s Zoomshare Profiles updates and continued evolution comes at the same time as Google&#8217;s expected announcement of the <a href=\"http:\/\/radar.oreilly.com\/archives\/2007\/10\/google-opensocial-api-launch.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">OpenSocial API<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of different <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pmarca.com\/2007\/10\/open-social-a-n.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blog<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2007\/10\/30\/details-revealed-google-opensocial-to-be-common-apis-for-building-social-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">postings<\/a> about the possible effects this new API will have on the web in general, and services such as Facebook or even Zoomshare. While I won&#8217;t venture a guess just yet as to where we or OpenSocial will go.
