{"id":220,"date":"2010-07-01T19:31:09","date_gmt":"2010-07-02T02:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/35.225.155.113\/blog\/index.php\/2010\/07\/01\/how_google_search_works_a_detailed_flowchat\/"},"modified":"2019-10-13T12:48:17","modified_gmt":"2019-10-13T19:48:17","slug":"how-google-search-works-a-detailed-flowchat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.weinstein.org\/blog\/index.php\/2010\/07\/how-google-search-works-a-detailed-flowchat.html","title":{"rendered":"How Google Search Works: A Detailed Flowchat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technabob.com\">technabob<\/a> pointed out the following flowchart, on how Google&#8217;s world famous Search feature works, by <a href=\"http:\/\/ppcblog.com\">PPCBlog<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ppcblog.com\/how-google-works\/how-google-works.jpg\" rel=\"milkbox:gall1\" title=\"Infographic by PPC Blog\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ppcblog.com\/how-google-works\/600.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"How Does Google Work?\"><\/a><br \/>\n<i>Infographic by <a href=\"http:\/\/ppcblog.com\/\">PPC Blog<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n<p>The chart itself doesn&#8217;t dive into how exactly <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PageRank\">PageRank<\/a> works so much as covers all the steps and guidelines used to discover, rank and report on a web page&nbsp;relative to&nbsp;an user&#8217;s query.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the text at the end that proclaims &#8220;and all of this is done in less than second, 300 million times a day&#8221; is a bit of a misstatement. That statement is valid for everything after the point of &#8220;User queries Google&#8221;. Everything before that is done in advance, in order to process, index and prepare for&nbsp;answering&nbsp;the user query in a quick, meaningful manner.<\/p>\n<p>Also, that sidebar seems to leave out that those data centers are filled with an estimated 100,000+ servers built using <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_platform#Software\">&#8220;off-the-self&#8221; PC hardware<\/a> that run highly customized software built on open source software such as Apache (quite possibly) and Linux (definitely).<\/p>\n<p>Of course Google didn&#8217;t exactly <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Google_platform#Original_hardware\">start out<\/a> as the 800-pound gorilla.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning technabob pointed out the following flowchart, on how Google&#8217;s world famous Search feature works, by PPCBlog Infographic by PPC Blog The chart itself doesn&#8217;t dive into how exactly PageRank works so much as covers all the steps and guidelines used to discover, rank and report on a web page&nbsp;relative to&nbsp;an user&#8217;s query.
